Join mental health support groups

Mental Health Support Groups (MHSG) are among the best and most widely proven methods for empowering and connecting those with lived experience of a condition with others in a similar situation.

Sessions are run by experienced facilitators many of whom also have lived experience of mental illness. Facilitators guide the group and spark discussions on topics including mental health techniques and strategies, day to day challenges and management, work, family and relationships and mental health education.

Safe and non-judgemental space

In these groups, participants can open up, realise they are not alone, address past unresolved issues, set new goals, learn new skills and take charge of their lives. For many people, the support group is the best environment to accomplish these changes.

The therapeutic benefits of support groups include:

  • Feeling less lonely, isolated or judged
  • Talking openly and honestly about your feelings to help cope with the situation better
  • Providing new coping strategies when listening to others experiences and sharing solutions
  • Offering a safe place to speak up about frustrations of living with a mental illness and ways of overcoming it.
  • Strengthening your motivation to stick with a treatment plan to manage your condition.
  • Reducing stress, depression, anxiety or fatigue
  • Gaining a sense of empowerment, control and hope.
  • Improving the understanding of a disease and your experience with it
  • Getting practical feedback about treatment options
  • Learning about health, economic and social resources.
